Good, not great.
Everyone is well cast except for Kristen Stewart. The camera is kind to her, but her performance seemed so out of place. She seemed like she was "acting" most of the time, and sleepwalking through some scenes. I didn't see any emotion from a character who should have been quite emotional at times.
Jesse Eisenberg captured the essence of his character type as the stand in for Woody. Sari Lennick we well cast as his sister Evelyn. Parker Posey was nearly unrecognizable, which is a way to say she inhabited her supporting character very well.
Cinematography was outstanding. This is a beautifully photographed movie, with an outstanding color palette. Like a lot of nostalgic movies set in LA, the sunshine is an uncredited, but critical element of the movie.
Enjoyable way to spend 2hrs. But given co-production by Amazon (yes that Amazon), expect it to be available for streaming on Amazon Prime sometime in the fall.
Follow Ups:
Have never liked her in anything until this film. Thought it was the best performance I've ever seen from her.
