There is ambiguity all the way through and ambiguity left at the end. There are heroic and villainous qualities in all the main characters. Although one is left with a sort of answer at the end, this answer may not actually be the right one. Similarly, the police detective and the prosecutor are just clearing another case in one sense, but in another, are actually trying to get the best justice they can for the dead girl. John Stone is the most heroic of the bunch. I loved the final shot. I was worried about that unresolved issue. I think they knew everyone would be. And then they resolved it. It was great, I watched each episode twice.
