The first 40-45 minutes or so (from the opening to the end of the sleigh ride) are cut just as Welles wanted. The problem with the next 40 or so minutes is that things were cut out or cut into that would have "deepened" the film (George's last walk to the old house, the fading of his relationship with Lucy, etc) Of course, worst of all is the cutting of George's visit to Aunt Fanny in the old folk's home, with the "Two Black Crows" playing in the background, replaced instead with the awful stroll down the hospital corridor that ends the movie. But at least we have the first 45 minutes and a stray scene here or there. The Major thinking about the sun. And Agnes Moorehead, in what IMHO is the greatest moment of her career, becoming hysterical as she tries to tell George that there is no more money. Welles dreamed of finishing the film as late as 1967. Not meant to be.

I too, was in awe off of Agnes Moorehead's performance. Brilliant!
Have a great day.
