Rachel Weisz returns to her Orthodox Jewish family to bury her Rabi father. She had been shunned away to NYC after having been found romancing another woman in the community, Rachel McAdams (now married to Nivola). Her return wasn't expected and not altogether welcome. Once back, the old feelings returned and once again they get caught.
This is one really slow and painful film (to an outsider). It crushes any romantic notion of converting to Orthodox Judaism. Might as well be Amish on steroids. The film meanders through the protocols of behavior and even the quick, romantic interludes do nothing to spice up the action. I must say the swapping of slobber did seem totally out of place in this story. Ew.
The performances were great but the subject matter was pure Debbie Downer. Found this in Red Box.
3 wonks for cast and performances
2 wanks for story and its true motive

From you description, I think I might want to see that. I have no desire to convert to Orthodox, so no risk there.
