What kind of deal should I expect for istallation. Currently on their web site they quote $400 for 1 hd dvr and 2 extra tv's after rebates. It seems like it was less when I checked a few weeks ago.
I have had it with comcast. Pic freezes and sound goes in and out. They have been out twice and still no results. The first guy said I needed an amp but he did not have one. The second guy came when the problem was not happening and did not leave the amp. It had been working fine for 3 years until recently. I am hoping sattlite will not have this issue.
Follow Ups:
I've been a Direct TV subscriber for some years. I recently added their neat HR 20-700HD DVR and moved my TiVo HR10-250 to another system. IIRC the cost was $200. Installation of a new 5 LBN dish and lots of tweeking were included. My mother has cable here in Santa Barbara and a Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD DVR that I have played with quite a bit in setting it up and helping her learn how to use it. IMO the HR20-700 is much easier to use than the SA 8300, and HD service on Direct TV is superior to the local cable. HD picture quality is about the same with her 37" Sharp Aquas and our 40" Sony monitor. Bottom line: I don't hesitate to recommend Direct TV.

Hah...I left DTV for that same reason...poor picture quality and frequent dropped signal, some channels were so bad they were unwatchable. Its been a year+ since I switched to cable, and have been fairly satisfied to date...though lately I have been noticing an increase in picture break-up and freezes. But its no where near the extent of those I experienced with DTV. Maybe they have improved their signal transmissions in the past year...maybe.
As far as I know they usually do the installation for free. I have had DISH and DTV and now cable and the installation for all has been free. If they want your business they should do it for free, since they lock you into a year contract with penalties for early termination. I had the regular STB, so maybe the HD-STB with dvr would cost some money.
