Some of the HD players have connections for component. I was told that this would work for playing an HD disc and obviously for SD DVD. Unsure what the overall PQ would be as I suppose it is dependent on the video chip included with the player. If it is better than what I already own, then that will provoke me to buy a player a bit sooner even without an HD display! :)

Hi Robert,
It would be nice to have improved SD while I'm waiting for my Pioneer Elite sometime in the future.I'm going to be very patient, read all the reviews, wait until there is a great selection of Blu-ray discs, and wait around for a good price. My final destination is probably a Pioneer Elite 50" (the latest)and a Japanese made blu-ray player.

Actually, the picture quality over component is much improved over other DVD players I've had in the past. It is the Denon DVD1920 universal player. Got it for a good price back then and it'll do for now. My Tosh 50" RRTV only has connection for component.
I can buy a better display and then upconvert with this Denon player in the meantime but really I also await the right price for the display and HD player! :)
