I think this is a bit bigger than Dalton realizes, when the second-largest retailer in the US announces it will not stock HD-DVD hardware. I actually do most of my shopping at a Target down the street (including groceries) and I bought my PS3 there. They can't keep BDs on the shelf at that store but my area (high tech center) is probably not representative of the entire country.

If this was about a software exclusive I would call it huge but who buys a $500 player Target? I believe Target will still be carrying the X-box HD DVD add-on. If CC or BB went exclusive on hardware then that would be big.

My local Target has two rows of each format and frequently the two formats are all mixed up on neutral releases. Not good when the stockers are only looking at title and not format.

  I did. I bought my PS3 at Target and I wasn't the only one. And look for prices to fall by the holiday season. I dunno if they'll get down to $200 but maybe $300. Still, I see your point.

  Consumers are also driven by software availability. If you want Casino Royale, PotC or other Disney or Sony movies, you won't adopt HD-DVD. If you want Matrix, you won't adopt blu-ray.

  My local target is similar to yours and is horrible in terms of having titles available on release date or keeping items in stock. this should change as the new formats gain wider acceptance.
