I use analog, others use optical. Ironically, one of the big hypes of HDMI, is that it carries both audio and video and hence less cables, but many, if not most people choose not to use it for audio.

I have connected my Oppo to a new Pioneer HD set via HDMI. I also am interested in NOT using this cable for sound reproduction. I've actaully detached my Pioneer speakers from the screen.
Unfortunately, when I run a coax from my Oppo Dv-980H to an older Denon 1800 receiver, the later gets "confused" and can't seem to lock on to the digital signal. I spin the dials every which way but I get absolutely no sound at all.
Are there specific set-up settings I need to adjust on the Oppo to make it work? Or are the factory default settings what you use?
Many thanks for any help.
