In Reply to: RE: Disaster for Blu-ray : Paramount dumps Blu-ray , and will now exclusively support HD DVD . .... posted by ZS KEKL on August 20, 2007 at 10:50:55
I don't know if this will turn the tide, which was slightly in favor of blu-ray, but it will make for a more prolonged "war", that neither side may "win."
While I loathe ambiguous situations--which format do I chose to avoid a future obsolescence?--I have come to see this as ultimately beneficial to the consumer.
The price of HD DVD players is coming down reasonably quick; OTOH, many blu-ray players are still unreasonably expensive. The more affordability of HD DVD players has and will drive down the price of blu-ray players. And software prices will come down as well.
Bill Hunt at Digital Bits has thrown his support behind blu-ray, a move that now appears (even more?) premature. Wars are unpredictable and often waged by proxy. Whether Microsoft is behind this new development is irrelevant. If MS has a vested interest in HD DVD winning, why wouldn't they devote their resources to supporting HD DVD?

If that changes, it will be a disaster. I sure hope kekl isn't holding his breath.
