A good read overall, though I'm not so sure that interactivity and internet-enabled features are going to be a big deal here. Although Toshiba's HD DVD players are somewhat easier to get connected to the internet because they support wired, not wifi, connections, it's still a stretch to ask regular folks to deal with matters of DNS and DHCP, and worse, the factory-default settings are guaranteed not to work.
Follow Ups:
Old data on players. The latest sales number show a major shift towards Blu Ray players.
Every month a lot of DVD players goes defective. Especially cheap ones have a short life. Many will considered an upgrade, when you have to buy a player anyway.
Together SONY, Panasonic, Samsung, Philips, Pioneer have a big market share of TVs.
Many people prefer to buy players from the same brands. Toshiba is alone, and that make people think twice, when the prices are so close as 450 and 299, and they have a USD 2000 TV.
And yet, the A2 is the #1 selling item in electronics for amazon at the moment. Perhaps you should check that shift again. Between the sales, and the Paramount/Dreamworks news, people seem to buying HD DVDs again.
