I'm a two channel guy, don't know much about video, looking for advice. My wife and I want to set up a small, good "theater" in our bedroom. No muti channel, no subwoofers. I want an excellent flatscreen tv up to, lets say, 32" or so. I want two channel sound through it. I have a Denon stereo receiver that I could possibaly use and a pair of Atoms that could be used if I had to. Looking for better sound than the Denon/Atom's would provide. Say you had 3 grand. What should I look at for TV, DVD player and two small speakers? I'll be using DVd's and digital cable. Also want it to sound good for music listening through the speakers as well as headphone listening. All that's not to much to ask, right? :)

We did something like what you want to do on the cheap.
Earlier this year our old 19" TV in the bedroom went out. I found one of the last 32" Sanyo wide flat screen CRT HDTVs at Walmart reduced to $399, so brought it home.
At an earlier date had picked up an old Rotel receiver at a yard sale for $2. It's early 70s vintage, and actually has matrix quadraphonic circuitry. Since I had four old Radio Shack Minimus 7s hanging around I hooked them up and we got some interesting surround effects with many films. Eventually got tired of the effects, and removed the rear speakers. I'm a 2 channel guy myself also. If I get ambitious or bored may get a little subwoofer, but for not it's fine for a bedroom system.
For $3k you should have loads of great options.
