The $100 discounts are to clear out stocks of existing models, because the 3rd-gen Toshibas are due in October, and I'm tempted to get an HD-A35 for myself, but feel like such a... CONSUMER (shudder) at the thought of upgrading from an HD-A20 which itself still practically has the new machine smell about it. But the A20 was my tentative step into the HD waters: Who'da known I'd enjoy it so much?
Follow Ups:
A $100 gift card is over and above the reduction of the cost of those players to begin with. Take for example the HDA2. Circuit City in the cart showed $249.
I do feel strongly that J6P looking into high def will be drawn to the much lower cost of an HD player versus a BD player. Whether they pull the trigger I suppose is another matter.
That certainly was true for me! My original plan was to sit on the sidelines and buy nothing until the format war had been decided (if ever), but along came the Toshiba HD-A20, selling for about what I had budgeted for a good standard-def DVD player, and buying into HD DVD suddenly became kind of a no-risk, no-brainer proposition.
