OK, I know very little info on this topic, but would like to buy a DVD recorder.

I would like to be able to record some nature programs on Public HDTV. I don't need the best, but would want a good quality unit. I have Samsung TV's and DVD players and have good luck with them, so I probably would be partial to them. What do I need to know before getting one? What is the ballpark price of one?
