Coincidently, I stopped by the Blockbuster near the office as I have in the past, looking for news on when I'll be able to rent Blu-Ray movies there. I got a trainee who had been there a week, and she didn't have a clue what "Blu-Ray" was, thought it was a movie title! I tried to explain, but it was pretty clear to me that this wasn't something she had seen around the store, or anywhere else. Hmmm.
Alas, I don't have a handy way to rent high-def locally anymore: The big Hollywood video "library store" abruptly closed, and with it, my sole source for Blu-Ray and HD DVD rentals short of Netflix and the like. The local independent rental shop probably has even more variety, but to date, no high-def.
Follow Ups:
To the point where they need to expand but don't have the space. I was told they are amongst the best locations in the northeast for rentals!
The plan though is to expand their Blu Ray section as they have 200 titles and they have noted interest is growing. I was also told there will be a kiosk with a PS3 continually playing a BD.
What I've noticed is that the stores that are not getting the traffic in my area are being closed. I'm sure this will continue and perhaps only the best ones will be left standing.
