In Reply to: RE: Blue Ray that will pass SACD and DVD - A through HDMI 1.3 posted by jllaudio on November 20, 2007 at 14:24:42
As Kal said, all you need is v1.2 for HDMI. However, the player needs to be enabled (regardless of HDMI version) to output a DSD signal via HDMI. And on the other end, the receiver must be able to accept a DSD signal (I believe there's only 2 or 3 that can, at the moment).
If you want DSD to PCM via HDMI, that's a different story: the PS3 can do that now, but DVD-A is not supported by Sony. I believe at least one Panasonic Blu-ray player supports DVD-A, but DSD/SACD is not supported by Panasonic. As Kal suggested, if next gen video can reside in a different player, then the Oppo may be your best bet.
Follow Ups:
The following was the description my receiver (Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH)manual gave for HDMI-SACD. "Allows the original SACD signal to be sent through the HDMI cable for PCM conversion in the receiver, provides a one cable solution."
I just purchased the OPPO-980H. I hope when I get it I will be able to go directly from the HDMI on the OPPO to one of my HDMI in's on the receiver and play SACD.
The Receiver I have is a Pioneer 94TXH which is HDMI 1.3a compatible. It will take 4 HDMI inputs.
