Wal-Mart offers another $200 HD DVD player
November 30th, 2007 — By Charlie Robb
November 30 – It appears as if Wal-Mart is going to be offering yet another $200 HD DVD player.
The not-so-well-known manufacturer Venturer is offering their SHD7000 HD DVD player in Wal-Mart locations.
The SHD7000 is only capable of 1080i playback, but for those not interested in making a serious investment before the format war is decided, this is definitely one inexpensive way to do so.
Wal-Mart also sells the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player for around the same price, but some people are reporting availability problems.

Follow Ups:
Yes, I actually held a box in my hands earlier today. 6 of them were stacked in the far corner of the home entertainment compound, without any signs or even price tags. They did put the Venturer on page one of the flyer, but there's no promotion in-store yet.
I think I'll be waiting a while longer for a player that does DivX, plays PAL DVDs (preferably region-free), and has analog outputs for the lossless audio. Or for a Boxing Day sale.
I'm actually surprised the software numbers haven't started to change yet because of the alleged HD DVD player sales and the touted "attach rates".
A2s should be gone for good by now...last ones I saw were priced at $298 at Wal-Mart.
BTW, I just saw a Wal-Mart Blu-ray commercial on TV this morning.
