Question about ATSC tuner in new DVD recorders.
I have a question about the ATSC tuner in the new Panasonic DVD recorder, or maybe some other brand. Haven't yet got a firm answer from salesmen or searching the web. From what I understand, the recorders down sample the HD signal so it will fit on the DVD Ram. That's fine but my question is... will the HD signal from the ATSC tuner pass through the component outputs to my older hi-def monitor? That is when I want to watch off the air Hi-def in real time? This would be going to my older Panasonic HDTV with no built in ATSC tuner. I'm using an old Samsung HD tuner (through component outputs now) But would like to replace it if I can use it instead of the Samsung AND record. This question asked by a man on a budget not willing to upgrade to a newer HDTV or Tivo or other buy and pay a monthly fee solutions... yet. Thanks jim...
Follow Ups:
And I don't know the answer. I have a Toshiba DVD recorder with a built-in ATSC/QAM tuner, but it's connected to an older TV set so there's no way I can tell. I read the manual and it doesn't say - in fact, it says very little about the tuner section at all.
Perhaps you should consider buying a DVD recorder from a source that will give you a no-questions-asked money-back guarantee, and give it a try.
