the sales of PS2 and PS3 worldwide is about equal, 500,000 units pr week, so what are you talking about?
The PS2 is much cheaper, at USD 130, so at USD 399 PS3 sales are very good.
Anyway, on November 19, 2005, the PS2 became the fastest game console to reach 100 million units shipped, accomplishing the feat within 5 years and 9 months from its launch.
That is one of the many reasons people buy a PS3, it is a long term investment. PS2 is now close to 8 year old, and still selling well.
How many other consumer electronic items do that? Phones go in 2 year, PCs in 3 years.
So many people buy a PS3, because USD 399 divided by 8 years is only USD 49.88 pr year. This is advantage of buying the best, it is cheaper in the long term.
