"Their have almost a monopoly on prestige audio video equipment."
Hardly a true statement. They make equipment with extremely good styling and some of it is very good technically. I used to own one of their turntables from the days before they introduced their radial tracking turntable so that dates me. Lovely design and extremely good interface design and ergonomics, traits that are common to nearly all of their gear.
By one set of standards, a set that ranks style equal with or higher than performance, it's certainly prestige equipment and they certainly do have close to a monopoly if you want to assess what's "prestige" by that set of standards. If you have a different set of standards however, one that puts performance first and style second and lower in importance, they have nowhere near a monopoly and they become a small player in a very big field.

I agree about standards, but the world prefers looks to inner quality, just look at moviestars and fashionmodels on the frontpages everywhere:-)
Re prestige, just ask a few "prestige" wifes about Bang & Olufsen.
Their name is poison in the US. I hear that their ICE modules are nice, but their "looks over quality" coined a new term-"BangandOlfsenism", meaning just that. Now, you see their gear in cheesy mail order catalogs.
