I wouldn't recommend investing any money in HD DVD if you haven't already done so already. I do agree there should be some killer deals on HD DVD coming up within days?/weeks?/months? so some folks might be willing to play. If I can pick up an HD-XA2 cheap (re: 5.1 TrueHD w/analog outputs + killer DVD upscaler) or HD DVD movies for less than $10, I might go for it. OTOH, hardcore HD DVD fans or uninformed consumer looking for a deal will probably beat me to it.
Follow Ups:
I think that investing in an HD-DVD player may keep the format alive awhile longer and that's GOOD, in my humble opinion.

I doubt that very many consumers are uninformed about Blu-ray fans doing an end-zone dance while armchair referees take another look at Warner's gambit, but certainly those of us who already own HD-DVD players will likely jump at the opportunity of purchasing a back-up player if the price is right.
