I'm a bit jaded on the sound with an extensive SACD and DVD-A collection, though I'll admit there is quite a bit of added value when you add a high-def video experience.
I'm taking a close look at every Blu-ray music video release....I'm hoping Reference Recordings et al are taking a serious look at releasing their master tapes on Blu-ray.
Follow Ups:
Well, as I mentioned, this is the culmination, at least so far. I've had a surround sound A/V system for over 10 years... Classe SSP-50 processor, and was using a Theta David as CD/DVD transport. Only recently put up the 52" Hi-def video display though. And although I purchased the Blu-ray DVD with the TV, I hadn't yet seen a blu-ray title until I finally got this Metheny title. So up til now I've been using the Hi-def TV either to watch "upconverted" regular DVDs or the 1080i resolution cable signal. Since my main interest has always been jazz recordings - this is the first time I've been so pleased with the combination of audio and video in one package. The icing on the cake, for me, is that the performance they've captured is so fantastic. Along with the Metheny DVD, I picked up the complete BBC "Planet Earth" series on blu-ray. The video quality of that package is stunning, gorgeous photography and amazing color and detail in the Hi-def pictures. The dynamics of a live jazz performance and the quality and precision of the surround sound sets the Metheny DVD apart from any other A/V experience for me so far.
