I bought one to toy with. It works quite well, despite some of the hysterics displayed in avsforum. Most of the "problems" reported are from people who are doing somewhat odd things, such as trying to bypass the Realta processor to use an external processor, or running through odd-ball switchers, or trying to "force" 1080p24 to displays that aren't 1080p24-capable, etc. Naturally these people are going to have issues, but they make it sound like the player is fundamentally flawed when it is not.
I'm using the player as intended by the manufacturer. My experience: SD DVD is spectacular, and Blu-ray is even nicer. Sound quality through the analog outs is superb, and it really does decode all the significant audio codecs. There are sufficient adjustments to mate it with most systems.
I'm outputting 1080p24 to my 1080p24 projector, and it works perfectly. I found one non-critical bug in one of the optional settings, but it's easily worked around and does not currently affect any performance feature. Denon has said they will fix that bug, and I'm sure they will.
So - if you have the cash, and aren't trying to do anything weird with the player, there's no reason not to consider it.
