Garden variety surround sound receivers may be set up to deliver 100 watts per channel to 5, 6 or 7 channels, but the engineers didnt spend the big dollars necessary to deliver 100 watts out of all 5 channels at once, which is seldom needed.
However, the cannon battles in the sound mix in places on this essentually require the full output from all the channels at the same time. The standard DVD was the first and so far only DVD to ever completely shut down muy Pioneer surround sound receiver. I gather the overload protects got blown, and the receiver shut down completely. I turned the receiver back on with the volume set a little lower, and got through the rest of the disk w/o incident. THe receiver has never shut down on any other disk before or after.
But if this is an issue with the standard DVD I would be even more watchful with the Blu Ray version.
