Not surprising as the underpricing the PS was Sony's intentional all along. It allowed them to surpass other competitors in the game industry and they make most of their money off of the games they sell, much like computer printers vis a vis the ink cartridges they sell for them.

That's an amazing revelation. You should immediately let the game industry know about this - for some strange reason they believe the PS3 has been, and continues to be, substantially outsold by its competitors.
at its inception, the main rival was Microsoft's X box, IIRC, and Microsoft debuted their machines a full year before Sony did. EWven at the iintrodutionthe PS were priced cheaper than any stand alone BD player and with more features. This was a deliberate decision on the part of Sony in order to enter the gaming industry in a big way and make itself a major contender. Other contenders like Wii were on even in the picture at the time.
