In Reply to: RE: Seeking Help/Advice: New Problem with SONY SXRD Set (very long) posted by JoeLip on July 26, 2008 at 10:34:58
The description is typical of the "green blob" problem. Chip convergence is not involved and there is nothing in the service menu that will completely ameliorate the problem. Replacing the light block will be required. The green color level control (gain and bias in the custom color temperature menu) can also be reduced to minimize the visibility of the effect although this really changes color rendition significantly. Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for the response. I suspect you are correct on the problem not being correctable via the service menu. Since I originally posted I contacted an ISF calibrator and while he wasn't too familiar with SONY he thought the optical block is going bad. You are right about the green adjustments helping quite a bit and, yes, they do affect the picture overall. Bummer. One other thing that helped. A SONY customer service guy suggested using the neutral color temp and that helped as well.
The set is at least usable but I gotta tell you I am WAY disappointed in the reliability of these sets. SONY used to be almost bullet-proof but alas that is no more. SONY is not too keen on standing behind their products anymore either. Oh well. Toshiba next time I guess.
Thanks again, Joe
