Chrisc I don't know what all that means either, I can tell you I just bought a ps3 and use toslink to my reciever and component to a pioneer elite and it is awesome. It beats directv high def on my RP elite.
Follow Ups:
To take advantage of the Blu-ray audio formats you need an HDMI cable to carry the PCM output by the PS3, as stated in the initial post.

Your right Toslink will not transfer optimum high rez multichannel audio but older rear projectors like my elite do not accept HDMI, however, IMO it is unbeatable for picture resolution...
