I see BB has been advertising house brand Insignia Blu Ray players for only $228. Has anyone dug into how comparable these units are to the $400 retail players?

The Insignia appears to be a Funai design and is similar to those being offered by a number of other discount chains. If the past is an indication, don't expect great performance or durability. An extended warranty is a good idea, but reduces the appeal of the bargain price. Blu ray players are complex pieces of equipment and much closer to computers than a DVD players. Remember- you usually get what you pay for.
