Hello,
I am a video newbie. I am planning to purchase an Optoma HD65. Looking for screen recommendations as far as gray or white. From my research, the rule seems to be gray screen for LCD and white screen for DLP (like the Optoma). I find some recommendations for Optoma's "Gray Wolf" screen for the HD-65. This is a gray screen with a 1.8 gain. Since one review of the HD-65 mentioned that it was on the "bright" side, is a screen with a 1.8 gain a good idea? or would I be better off with a 1.0 screen?
Thanks,
Jim Bailey
Follow Ups:
1.8 gain seems awfully bright. High screen gain will also limit off-center viewing.
Here's something to play with - ProjectorCentral's projection calculator. You can input your seating distance, projection distance, and room lighting conditions, and play with the amount of screen gain to estimate the amount of brightness you'll end up with.
The days of too-dim home projectors are pretty much gone - these days most projectors will put out more light than is necessary to produce a quality picture.
Thanks racerguy,
The URL was very helpful. Turns out that I need more like a 0.8 gain.
