My old Pioneer 720p plasma automatically downscaled 1080p output from the PS3 and it looked spectacular, but having never used your Hitachi plasma or whatever BD player you're using, I couldn't say for sure. If you're running all your signals through an A/V processor, that's another opportunity to set the output for 720p. But I'd bet the plasma would automatically downscale the signal.

Fixed pixel displays (LCD; Plasma) will display only their native resolution, regardless of what the source component can send to the display. So you are limited to a 720p resolution, even though you have a BD player.
