I am about to migrate to a home theatre arrangement for my HD TV. Right now my cable box is connected directly to the set (Sony XRB3) via HDMI.
I intend to purchase a good AV receiver and Blu ray player and connect my cable box to the receiver via HDMI and from the receiver to the TV via HDMI.
My question is this: will I degrade the picture quality by first passing its signal through the electronics in the receiver as opposed to the direct rout from my cable box?
Follow Ups:
The only time I would run video through a receiver is if I absolutely had to use the receiver as a switcher. Adding another piece of electronics to the signal path, whether it be audio or video, always comes with the risk of compatibility issues. Some receivers won't accept or even pass-thru 1080p. Others might pass 1080p60, but will hiccup with 1080p24. Several receivers on the market will clip Below Black video and/or Peak White video.
Then again, your setup may have no troubles at all.
Depends on the AVR. Some even have video processors which can improve video quality.
