Forcing output to 1080i won't change that.

For that matter, almost all upsampling optical disc players - DVD or Blu-Ray - are limited to 480p maximum output resolution for DVD output through the component outs. And Blu-Ray output through the component outs is limited to 1080i or 720p. 1080p is not possible for BD playback through the component outs.
In other words, in most players, HDMI is required for full-resolution BD playback or for any upsampling of DVD playback.

with some BD players, such as the PS3. The problem is there are very few displays that will accept it: I know the Pio 141 does, but since it has HDMI anyway...
