I purchased a Sony KDL52W4100 tv and have had many ocassions in which the sound gets interrupted for 2 or three seconds to return to normalcy.
I changed the cable box with no improvement.
Then I went and exchanged the Apple HDMI cable for a new one and I had the same problem later on. For some reason last night it didn't happen.
I tried connecting the coaxial cable from the cable service directly to the tv and there was no problem.
It does not happen with the XBOX which connects with audio phono jacks.
I don't have and prefer not to invest in a dvd or blue ray player for the moment to taste the HDMI ports (it happens with all of them) with a different device.
I checked the tv manual and there is nothing that indicates that I have a wrong setting that could cause this.
Does anybody have experience with an issue like this?

Sony does have a system software upgrade for the several BRAVIA TVs including the KDL-52W4100 model. One of the problems with the old software is 'Intermittent audio on HDMI Input 4' as stated in the list of upgrades. They have a download available from their support site or you can request that the update be mailed to you. I would go to their site and read their details about the upgrade.

If you are using HDMI Input 4, it would be worth a try to move to another input.

I had an HDMI issue with a Westinghouse LCD. I unplugged the set for a few minutes and while holding the on button I plugged it back in. This reset the HDMI circuit as well as the HDMI settings. but it cured the problem.
This tip came from Costco Concierge help line, of all places.
