Isn't this interesting? I have been an audiophile for far too many years to mention - since I was in college. I have since retired from my life work. I went through the process associated with recreating vinyl/sound reproduction. Purchased a rather esoteric TT and associated equipment and had a fairly good time with the whole business. Then came video with SS 5.1 and now 7.1. I am still using my original home theater receiver a Marantz SR-18. I do not have HDMI and have to use component outputs/inputs, but still get a reasonably passable HD picture and fairly good sound. I have had to compromise on sound because of the environment in which the TV is located. Unfortunately, it is not a dedicated room for home theater. It is in our great room so there are furniture issues as well as problems associated with "hiding" speakers. In order to do this, I do not have the most accurate sound reproducing system when it comes to a speaker arrangement. But I am still satisfied with it and really look forward to seeing and hearing the next movie. What this really says is that I have lost interest in pure audio reproduction. I look forward to new issues of specific performers and occasionally buy a new CD or whatever, but my full emphasis at the moment is on video. So now that I have bared my soul on this situation, I have to believe there are others out there who have gone through a similar evolution from audio to video. It does seem to me that each component enhances the other. Glad to hear there are others out there who feel as I do as this point in time. I went through a bad period a guilt for a while until I resolved it in my mind. I can involve myself with both elements if I want to at any time I wish, so it is not so bad after all. Keep watching and good luck
Ron
