Can any one be so kind to point me to where I can get to see information on the laser pick up head? I have recently learnt to change the picked up head on my DVD players. Usually after 2 to 3 years of use, there are not so good for playing DVD. But I hear one could adjust the strength of the laser so that the head could read those harder to read disks, and there are 2 trimmers usually at the back of the head. I dont mind to play with it as I usually will measure the resistant of the trimmers and could always get back to the factory set up. They are usually cost around US$ 8 only any way.
Wonder how the blue ray head is like.

Well, first thing you need is an oscilloscope and then you have to find the RF eye testpoint to know where to connect the scope probe to. Then you need to find the appropriate service manual to find out what the proper level of the RF eye waveform is. Also, while you're at it you should probably look into a technical school so that you have some kind of a clue as to what you are actually doing. Sorry to be so blunt but as a former electronic service tech I used to love dealing with customers that liked to tweak adjustment pots. Come to think of it, you guys helped pay off my house. My advice, if it ain't broke don't screw with it.
hi Bob, how things are in Alberta? Tks for your advise and sugestion, we I play electronis since young but never could understand laser head yet as my EE and Physics was from 1981 era, though I went to McGill...when they were still researching fiber optic and we had fund programming PDP11.
I got the service manual of Pioneer DV59 that showed thoese scope view, I was just hoping if some one could tell me what the 2 trimmers on the head are for, is one for focusing and the other one for lesar output?? You know the DVD players are so cheap this day, and I am probably buying a new one every 6 months to play with the electronics inside, mainly tuning for the sound. Lots of cheap players could actually produce nicer sound then those sperate transport/DAC on the early to mid 90s after tweaking....
tks a million
