I am considering getting a combo DVD / CD player to put in with my higher end analog 2 channel stuff just to listen to the odd disc and watch a movie now and again.
I brought home an inexpensive DVD player from a local big-box just to check it out. Well, the video is good, but oh my gosh, the music is brutal !
Now I know todays DVD players have upsampling chips and HDMI and all that stuff, but would something like the EAD Theatre-Vision player, with it's standard component RGB outputs be a huge letdown visually? i know that the EAD will certainly play CD's and my guess is it would still trounce a new player musically.
Is this thing a dinosaur compared to even the cheapies, or will I be surprised. It certainly would have been built with much better parts anyway !
Your appreciated input is needed?

Build quality will be vastly better to a modern player but performance will probably be worse.
It depends on the TV. With my new Samsung 850 model running RGB component from the DVD player and letting the TV do the job looks every bit as good as running HDMI and having the player do the job.
