Compared to the 103, 85 inches seem just right for us to enjoy Blu-Ray (we have a viewing throw of 13 feet to the 58 Panny right now.) That would be about the same size as when I show my 16mm films, so a good involving size without getting out of hand. Now as for reality....god only knows what they want for it. I am not telling my wife about it. Because I am afraid she would think I am serious about it. And bad things happen when she thinks like that....

I'm in the same boat. If I want a TV in my family room, That's about the size I would need. The viewing distance is about 13 feet, and 60" just won't cut it. Unfortunately, a FP really isn't practical for me. I guess I'll have to stick with a 60" in my living room instead.

They reduced the price of the 103" to $50k. So...I'll take a guess the 85" is under $25k...much more affordable. Part of the problem (besides $$$) with the 103" one is it weighed in the ballpark of 500lbs (that may have included a stand though).
To get the "full benefit" of 1080p, the eye distance should be no more than about 11' from an 85" screen. 13' is still very much in the center of the optimal 1080p zone though, so you are right this would be a good size for you. For many people, like me, the problem is being able to sit far enough away from a large screen...
