What does BD live do for me? In particular I would like to know if it would enable me to download Chinese subtitles for discs that do not come with them?
I have the Oppo player, but no ethernet connection now.
Thanks.

Actually, I do seem to recall at least one B-D in which other subtitles were available as downloadable content. One or two others have had substantial bonus content via download as well (Kung Fu Panda, for one). But it's really up to the publisher of the disk. Most of the time, "Live" adds no real value that I can see.
More than anything else, I think it was intended to be a marketing tool: You sign up for some token bonus content, and their marketing department gets to view your usage patterns.
I don't believe so. My understanding it is for bonus content. See the link below. I have 3 systems, the Oppo in the main one, a PS3 in the basement and a Samsung 2500 in the bedroom. I've gone BD-Live perhaps a dozen or so times. All my players are connected to the internet. Probably to get what you want you might look at discs/players that play other regions.
