I couldnt really compare the different sizes at the store with any level of accuracy, since they were located in different areas. We only watch SD DVDs, since we dont own a Blue Ray yet (Im still waiting for the LOTR series on BR before I get one). SDs look like HD from the distance we sit (about 15' from the 50" Panasonic. At that distance, I dont think you could tell if it was a BR disk or not. Single strands of hair are easily seen on the actors. Ours is 720, which was the norm when we got ours. When I go to BB and see BR disks playing, I dont really notice any difference, unless you get really close to the set. I dont know if the Panasonic is doing any kind of up converting or what, but SD DVDs look great. Even after several years of owning the plasma, Im still amazed at the color fidelity and quality of the image. I did adjust the set for proper calibration (I just googled the setup parameters, and found them on a HT website). At the store, sets are seldom optimized. Out of the box, the picture is too bright and over saturated in color. You will want to get a calibration disk (or google it like I did), and set it up properly. This goes for LCDs, too. I dont remember the model number now, but the new sets are even better.
