Movies aren't real. I love the dinosaur roar in Jurassic Park. If the have a world class sub you will come close to crapping your pants. If you don't; well that's life. I don't have a sub, tho my speakers go pretty low.The rescue scene in matrix is a real system workout. The spent cartridges tinkling as they hit the chopper strut is lovely. The depp bass thrum, thrum thrum of the Huey chopper is a classic, and the explosion
is another way of knowing how good your sub is.For reality, try Buena Vista Social Club. Lovely little movie, good music.

Thank you very much for your kind and helpful advice
My impression is that with a good recording a lot of system can do a remarkable job nowadays
Nevertheless, as you say, to get a high end performance implies a substantial system
I am mostly interested in testing the mid to high range performance of my present set-up as I have intention to add a sub to complete the the sound in the low frequencies
I am thinking of actively crossing at around 300 Hz my present speakers used as satellite in an arrangement like this one

of course on a much cheaper scale
Kind regards,
