People in the US who have purchased the (Attenborough) version from the UK will most likely find that it will not play in their US Blu-ray player. It's because the disc is encoded at 1080i/50, not 1080i/60. The disc from the UK is actually not region locked (it says Region B, but from several accounts it's not locked to only B players as some people are playing their imported Blu-ray in their 1080i/50 capable US player).
What will be released in the US, in June, are 4 versions of Life. There will be 2 DVDs and 2 Blu-rays, all of which will play in US players. One DVD and one Blu-ray will be narrated by David Attenborough and one DVD and one Blu-ray will be narrated by Oprah Winfrey. Same video, just different narrators.
People interested in this disc should do themselves a big favor and read the reviews. One narrator shines (Attenborough) and the other does not (Winfrey).

I was just referencing the UK releases because I buy most of my BDs there. Music discs too. They are far cheaper than in Canada and usually the U.S. too, even after shipping costs. Life has been out in the UK for a while. As you said, like Planet Earth, it's not region/area-locked, the problem is many people over here have players that won't do 50Hz stuff. My understanding is the UK box is incorrectly labelled as 1080p.Actually, now that I think about it, there *may* be an advantage to getting the 1080i/50 UK version of Life if you can play it. It was "filmed" at 25fps. Rate conversion. What do you think?
Certainly the U.S. releases will be playable here.

Yes, it's possible that this is the most "true to the source" version. It may take a bit of digging to find out what cameras and equipment was used to capture those wonderful images. Regardless, when it gets released in the US, I'm definitely going to get it. I think it has a universal WOW/educational factor for people of all ages and backgrounds.
