I like monitors -- I don't need the noise, I can make my own noise.
I bought a Panasonic professional plasma monitor about 10 or so years ago, and bought another one about 4 or 5 years ago.
What's great about the pro models is:
they have a very thin, non-reflective bezel.
they have a "logo" that you can easily remove
they have no lights, buttons, decals, etc.
they have no internal amps/speakers
they have "pro" menus that offer lots of "tweaking" adjustments
I can't seem to find the pro model Panasonic monitors anymore ... anyone know where they went ???
I'd love to have a large, state-of-the-art plasma monitor, but do you need to be a tv studio to get them now ?

Just posting to agree with the preference for the Panny commercial monitors. I have a 6 year old 50" plasma (720P) that is still near s.o.t.a. from anything I've seen in my neighborhood of friends. Just like with higher end caliber audio equipment, they are transparent to the source - garbage in/garbage out. With a great bluray video source disc, I have no desire to upgrade to the latest technology. Until/unless the major cable & satelite providers clean up & improve their video quality, I am content with what I have.
You might poke around at AVSforum.com for some ideas as well.

By the way, you said Panasonic's broadcast model plasmas do not have internal amps -- they do. They just don't have speakers. The internal amps can be connected to your own speakers via the monitor's speaker output terminals. As for a 65" broadcast model, it runs about $4.5k from the two vendors below.
Two reputable online dealers who carry their monitors:

https://clevelandplasma.com/store/plasma_tv_s/panasonic
(consumer and broadcast are on the same page, just look for models that end in 20U or 12UK )
