I haven't been around the Asylum for probably 5 years now due to work and family challenges. Now we are about to remodel a living room and I need a new HT receiver and a pair of bookshelf speakers, center channel, and a pair of on wall speakers for the rear. I've been out of it for so long I have no idea anymore what are decent cheap options. I'd like to stay under $1000 to $1200 for everything, and I'll add a subwoofer as more money becomes available.
I don't have a lot of requirements for this except I'll need a learning remote to also control my Sony 50' TV, and it would be nice if there was an optical digital input on the receiver, as we stream a lot of movies from a Mac Mini. What do you guys recommend? I don't want to buy used, but I'm certainly open to closeout gear.
Thanks in advance,
crazychile
Follow Ups:
I looked around a bit online and am intrigues by either a Mirage nanosat system or Polk RM85 system. I used to sell big Mirage speakers almost 20 years ago and like the Mirage house sound, but the Polks have better efficiency. I also looked at Denon and Yamaha recievers in the 400-500 range and the Yamahas seem to offer a little more for the money. I didn't see anything with a learnng remote so I may have to go aftermarket on that.
Any opinions on the above? Also what is a good choice for a sub in the $400 or lower range? What about a learning remote for $100 or less? I may be able to stretch the budget up to $1500...
Thanks,
crazychile
