I spoke to a very knowledgeable and pleasant fellow at OPPO who professed astonishment at that pair of maladies, and for correction suggested that I experiment with the settings, especially the ones relating to 24fps. Good plan.
Well! Imagine my surprise when I hit the button and found that they had gone awry. Many were neither my selection, nor the factory settings. For instance, NTSC/PAL was set to PAL! And BD-live had been re-engaged. And other stuff that I had to correct. So I put the two 24fps settings on "On", not "Auto", and put a BD in. The judder is gone, and I think the off-synch too, but more watching will be needed.
The moral: Don't assume your settings will hold forever.
P.A.

I also noticed the lip synch problem stopped when I turned BD-Live off.
BD-Live is *supposed* to be off in my system, but I bet I left it ON when I started turning off the listening room router instead of just disabling BD-Live when I was done with it.
The problem started recently when I started leaving the router turned on, thus enabling BD-Live to work, once I started using the SB Touch.
I am still NOT entirely convinced that the Squeezebox Server running at a high priority interferes with whatever network crap that an ON BD-Live is doing in the background, and somehow causing the BDP-83 to screw up the audio output...that's why I didn't say any more because I still don't know for sure it's not a combo of things.
It is VERY weird that I first got it the day after you posted. I only partly blame you...
