The value depends on the model. Most were only 720p; if you've got one that does 1080p, I assume it would be worth considerably more.
As for the computer, the Xbox HD-DVD drive could be hooked to a computer to play (and rip) HD-DVD movies. There were various internal drives, even a couple of Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo drives. I'm not sure if all HD-DVD players used SATA drives internally; if so, you could probably salvage the drive and use it as a CD/DVD/HD-DVD reader. HD-DVD movies can be easily ripped to mkv to play on media players, and even converted to Blu-ray.
You could try selling it locally: ~somebody~ was scooping up those $5 HD-DVD movies from the Wal-mart clearance bins, and they might want a spare player.

Not true. Most were 1080p. I have 80+ HD-DVDs, and all but one is 1080p-one is 1080i. I still have a player. Its built like a tank, and has out lived 2 Blu-ray players.
That said, I have no idea why the OP bought the disc if he has no player.

I meant the players were mostly 720p/1080i, so I presume the 1080p capable players will fetch higher prices.
Since my current HDTV is only 720p, I'm satisfied with the $12 thrift store Venturer HD-DVD player. Once I go 1080p, I'll have to use the HTPC or WDTV Live to enjoy the full 1080p goodness.
