It really depends on what you plan to spend. Plasma has become the more budget oriented option. I have had both Panasonic and Samsung plasma TV's are they were both pretty good. The new LED backlit LCD panels have overtaken the plasma in terms of absolute quality, but at a much higher price.
The worst flat panel is still going to be far and away better than a 19 years old CRT anything. If you plan to keep your next TV for 19 years, avoid off brands. They all die within 5 years.

I dont agree. While the new LCD sets have improved a lot over the last 10 years, plasma still beats them in image quality. Check what the better review sites on the internet say. They seem to agree.
