In Reply to: RE: thankyou I may buy an Oppo player and avoid the XBOX annual fee. posted by PhilJ on August 05, 2012 at 09:26:49
Netflix has a monthly fee of $8 for unlimited streaming (that's what we have). As for an XBOX annual fee, what's that for? Does Microsoft charge a fee for their online membership? I have a PSN (Playstation Network) account -- which is needed for accessing Netflix via the PS3 -- but there is no fee at all.
And audio from Netflix is Dolby Digital 2.0 (there is no lossless audio available).
I know someone with a U-verse 2WIRE box from AT&T. She doesn't have any problems with her wireless connection.
Follow Ups:
Some Netflix devices (e.g., Roku) will do Dolby Digital+ 5.1 as well as 1080p video. Many Netflix movies are 2.0 audio, but they with matrixed surround (so you play them back with your receiver set to Dolby ProLogic).
I know the Wii is free and now you say the PS3 is free too but I do think the XBOX costs to use online thru Microsoft.
thanks for the info about the wireless connection.
