We have a Sony LCD and a Sony rear projection (XRD) TV. To my tastes the rear projection has a better picture even though it is older and now less prefered technology.

I LOVED my SXRD until the light engine went south. Why did they have to use PLASTIC filters?

The biggest problem with rear projection (besides being huge), is the lack of off axis viewing. Get more than about 45 degrees off axis, and they look like they are off. Extremely narrow viewing area.
