In Reply to: RE: I have a blu ray which will NOT PLAY UNLESS IT IS CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET posted by mbnx01 on September 10, 2012 at 21:14:54
What player are you using?
Do you have the player set to keep the internet connection on or off?
When you yell "UNLESS IT IS CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET", do you mean the actual internet connection, WiFi turned on or an ethernet cable plugged into the player?
It would not be in a studio's best interest to require a player to be connected to the internet in order to watch the disc. There are thousands of Blu-ray players out there that do not have internet capability and thus would not be able to play the disc. Could you imagine the backlash from such a moronic decision?

The $500 unit.
It doesn't matter if there is an ethernet connection or a wi-fi connection. Connected to the internet is connected to the internet. Again, for those of you who missed it the first time, there MUST BE a LIVE INTERNET CONNECTION for this disc to display anything on the screen.
No internet = black screen, no menu's.
I believe this is not by design, it's a screwup in the menu for the blu ray. They first screen you get is the 'bd portal' crap. And if you can't get to that it does not display anything.
This is a netflix disc. I don't know if the other discs in this series have the same problem. When I get disc 3 I'll find out.
