You get dual HDMI output, which can come in real handy, one to your TV for just plain viewing, the second to the sound system for serious movie watching.
Also it has a dual core processor so it loads movies MUCH faster. This is a chronic problem with Sony's that they finally addressed with the S790.
Also the interface is cleaned up over earlier versions for better Netflix selections etc. The Wireless Network works great. However, I have cable, so your DSL may not be good enough. You get what you pay for.
Also it has upconversion to 4K resolution. Though now virtually no one has a 4K TV, it does indicate the S790 has a quality upconvertor. It does, DVD's look practically as good as Blu Rays.

does the sound match the panny?
The "sound" is a high speed heavily encoded digital signal that bears no relation to analog signals. It is totally dependent on the decoding equipment.
