Try to get original packing from store/dealer-
That would be the best bet-
Failing that - I have seen movers make wooden framed crates w/o complete sides etc. to transport Mirrors and large framed art -
I received a Plate glass mirror from my in-laws in NY at our home in CA in excellent shape...
Happy packing
Follow Ups:
For a long move, I'd be tempted to build a crate, perhaps from plywood that I could later use to build something useful (more subwoofers?). Or just sell it locally and treat myself to a new and better one.
For shorter moves, cushion it on something and tie it securely to the side of my van.
Yeah, that is what I said to my wife (regarding the original box) when we bought it. Nope, she insisted that I throw away the packaging (we have everything from our house in a one bedroom apt, so space is/was at a premium!).
I'll probably end up packing it between the mattress and box spring! Hehehe....
